Daniel and Ginette Mathurin, Continued

So, to recap, there is a claim on the internet that Haiti has more oil than Venezuela. Indeed, where Venezuela is a "glass" Haiti is an olympic sized swimming pool. I have traced this claim to two "scientists" interviewed here, named Daniel and Ginette Mathurin. Their names now come up on hundreds of thousands of web pages.

In a previous blog post I suggested that these two were probably not very credible if indeed they even existed. I now believe they do exist.

See this article. There you can find a story in French about a conference in which Dr. Mathurin was the guest of honor. He was even awarded a placque for his studies. In his keynote, he descants on all variety of topics. Incidentally, we're told he has a MD from the state university of Haiti and then went on to study nuclear fusion in Canada.

OK, sounds a little fishy. Rarely do persons transition from medical doctor in Haiti to nuclear fusion quite so easily. Moreover, I thought Dr. Mathurin's expertise was in oil and geology?

Then we hear (via Google Translate):

"Following the data given by Dr. Mathurin on the true meaning of the philosopher's stone, a nuclear reactor very resistant to the impacts of asteroids that would destroy the planet, details have been articulated on the Haitian containing geological riches of the soil which can produce a superconducting device that can protect the planet from dangerous collisions announced. To a question whether man can also meet the potential of superconducting atomic physics, Dr. Mathurin has advanced anatomical and cultural data to prove that the human body has also, under ideal conditions, opportunities telecommunications, transportation and nuclear defense. "

So, to summarize. 1) Dr. Mathurin and his wife, Ginette, seem to be real persons. 2) They are the ones responsible for the "Haiti has more oil than Venezuela" claim. And 3) Dr. Mathurin also believes that the human body has capabilities for telecommunication and nuclear defense and that he is working on a reactor to fend off incoming asteroids. High-tech stuff

Here's the question for those who believe Dr. Mathurin's estimates on the quantity of Haitian oil. Do you think his views on telecommunication and other matters, as well as the fact that he is an MD that claims to have studied nuclear fusion Canada, might conceivably undermine his credibility on complex geological questions?

We report, you decide.

More Oil in Haiti than Venezuela: Who are Daniel and Ginette Mathurin?

A rumor has been circulating around the web that there is more oil in Haiti than Venezuela. (see update).

For instance, the claim can be found on a website called "World Oil". The original statements were made in a French language story on the website and can be found here. Victor Thorn has also picked it up. In fact "more oil in Haiti than Venezuela" gets over 700,000 hits on google. It must be true!

An English translation of the Metropole article may be found here:

The claim that Haiti has more oil than Venezuela is attributed to a pair of scientists, Daniel and Ginette Mathurin. They would seem to be the ones portrayed in the picture in the original article on, although the photograph is not labelled.

One rather colorful claim made by team Matherin is that:

"An Olympic pool compared to a glass of water that is the comparison to illustrate the importance of oil Haitian compared with those of Venezuela".

Wow, that's a lot of oil in Haiti! This is indeed rather remarkable, if true.

But just who are these intrepid "scientists" Ginette and Daniel Mathurin. For instance, are they affiliated with a university, or an oil company, or a research institute, or a government agency, somewhere? What is there specialization? Where did they do their doctoral work? Was Daniel Mathurin Ginette's Ph.D. advisor (it often happens that way: adviser hooks up with student)?

Try as I might, I have not been able to find any such evidence (outside the metropole story) for the independent existence of these two persons, this power couple of sorts. I have googled and googled and cannot find any Ginette or Daniel Mathurin other than the references to them in this article.

Well, that's not true exactly. I did find one other reference to the pair on They're quoted for their expert scientific opinion, once again:

This other article starts as follows (English translation):

"The researchers Daniel and Ginette Mathurin announce that a world cataclysm will involve durable modifications in the life of the inhabitants of the earth. "

And then:

"He supports that in 3 years a climatic catastrophe is envisaged because of the effect of greenhouse (CO2 excess in the atmosphere) which will accentuate the reheating of planet.
The major consequences are the food chain breakage marinates (because of the reduction in the acidity of the oceans) and the cast iron of the glaciers (involving a rupture in the terrestrial food chain) indicates him, specifying that these changes will push 300 million climatic refugees towards the Caribbean."

There are some interesting bits:

Ginette Mathurin recalls that civilizations disappeared at the time of cataclysm which re-appeared in cycles explaining why the Bahamas 15 thousand years ago were an island larger than Cuba "fossil energy used is polluting and decreases the life of the human beings and the life of the ground", explains such.
For Doctor Daniel Mathurin the Haitian authorities must set up a plan so that Haiti can draw from the economic advantages of the arrival of these rich refugees coming from the North of Europe.

And then a surprising conclusion [sic]:

Moreover it announces the end of world oil stocks for 2040 underlining Haiti primarily has an important hydrocarbon layer in the West and the Central Plate "the stock of oil reserve of Haiti east 5 times larger than that of Venezuela", supports - it specifying that the government has precise information on these layers.
Questioned on the behavior that the citizens must adopt vis-a-vis with these announced cataclysms, Daniel Mathurin declares that it "is too late to panic it should be believed that the miracles of God are in?uvre each day".

So, if you believe the brilliant scientists, Ginette and Daniel Mathurin, cataclysm is on the way and everybody is heading for Haiti. Note also that in the article Dr. Mathurin estimates that Haiti has 5 times more oil than Venezuela. Wow!

But, I don't know, something sounds a bit fishy about these Mathurins. I don't what it is, maybe it was the bit about "miracles of God" that sounds a little bit wacky. Could it be ...

... that Daniel and Ginette Mathurin were invented? Made up? Out of whole cloth? (update: the pair seem to exist! and they have some funny ideas about asteroids and the human bodies capacity to deflect nuclear energy!)

I'll go ahead and make the speculation. I'll say it. Daniel and Ginette Mathurin don't exist and, if they do, they are not "scientists" -- e.g. they have no credential and no degree. Call it a hunch.

until next time,
